O’Neill Center distributes grocery boxes

The O’Neill Center recognizes inflation has hit everyone and food costs are at an all-time high, especially impacting seniors who have fixed income levels.

According to a study published in JAMA Health Forum, research has found that food insecurity among U.S. families with older adults has nearly doubled over the past two decades.

Thanks to contributions from an anonymous donor, Marietta Noon Rotary Club and others through the Marietta Community Foundation, O’Neill was able to secure funding that provided the opportunity to distribute 45 grocery boxes to seniors in Washington County.

This gives area seniors the opportunity to have better nutrition options available to them.

Volunteers from MCF and Washington County Commissioner Charlie Schilling joined O’Neill in assembling and distributing the boxes.

Heather Allender, President and CEO of MCF, commented that “Marietta Community Foundation and Marietta Noon Rotary Club are proud to partner with the O’Neill Center to help ensure that our seniors have access to nutritious food, especially during challenging times. It’s heartwarming to see the community come together, whether through donations or volunteering, to make a real difference in the lives of our seniors. This project reflects the power of collaboration and the shared commitment we have to supporting those in need.”
